Tasting Notes: The 2010 offering of our Saignée is a departure from the Saignée that we have done in the past. It is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Syrah, where in the past it was 100% Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. This has actually made for a little bit of added complexity in the wine which is quite attractive. The aromas coming off of this wine just jump out of the glass before you can even get it to your nose. Macerated strawberries, rhubarb, fresh ripe cherries, raspberries, cranberries, strawberry jam, and even a bit of baked peaches. All of these wonderful aromas play beautifully as they fill the glass. On the palate the initial impression is a mouthful of mixed berry “yumminess”! Strawberries, raspberries, cherries, cranberries, and fresh blackberries with a bit of rhubarb mixed in. The wine has a nice crisp acidity that plays beautifully with the rich berry flavors on the palate. This is a great wine to pair with pork, chicken, or seafood that's been grilled and brushed with BBQ sauce.
