Tasting Notes: This very special wine is a first for us at Cave B. We wanted to bring you the developed flavors of our oldest vineyards and as such this wine is made from our oldest Merlot block “Vincent’s Merlot”. The XXIII represents the vine age for the 2008 Vintage in our Vincent Block of Merlot. From the get go the aroma from this wine just jumps out of the glass. Cherries, blackberries, and a kiss of anise greet your nose along with subtle notes of red licorice, cedar, and sweet tobacco leaves. The palate leads with lightly spiced notes of nutmeg and just a hint of cardamom. Cocoa nibs, and dried cherries come into play just as the red licorice, anise, and cedar round out this lovely full flavored wine. This wine has the structure and balance to age very nicely in your cellar but will begin drinking beautifully by summer 2011. Our XXIII merlot will pair beautifully with a hearty beef or wild game stew or braise.
