Tasting Notes: Our 2009 Sangiovese is showing some depth and richness on the nose early on. Leather is my first impression then there are hints of freshly made cranberry sauce. There are bits of cherry and red licorice, then just a touch of toasted chestnuts add to the deep aroma of our Sangiovese. On the palate red licorice acts as the bookends jumping in right away and coming back for the finish. In between the red licorice cranberry sauce is joined by hints of sweet tobacco and black tea leaves. Ripe cherries and blackberries play around as well while the red licorice comes back to accompany the lovely tannin acid balance on the finish. Being a more lightly structured wine the 2009 Sangiovese is a great companion to pizza, pasta, or heartier chicken dishes.
