2013 Cave B Cabernet Franc
2013 was a fantastic growing season with very even warm temperatures throughout the summer. The Cabernet Franc from this vintage is quickly becoming a knockout wine. It offers subtle earthiness with hints of nutmeg and black tea leaves while the fruit comes off as dried blueberries, dried currants, and craisins accompanied with a sweet floral note of hibiscus flowers. Cabernet Franc can be somewhat light on the palate. The 2013 vintage of our Cab Franc, while not a huge wine, is quite rich and full for a Cabernet Franc. The mid-palate of this wine is simply delicious hitting every part of your palate and filling your mouth with all of the lovely earthy fruit flavors encountered on the nose. The beautifully integrated tannins and acid give this wine a tremendously long finish for a varietal that is typically lighter. With the medium structure of this wine it is actually well suited for a number of food pairings from a rich salmon with a hearty sauce, to lightly grilled red meats. I think an especially good pairing for this wine would be a pan seared squab with cranberry fig chutney served with butter fried fingerling potatoes.
