Chenin Blanc is planted in the oldest vineyard block on our property, which is also the oldest vineyard block in the Ancient Lakes AVA (American Viticultural Area). The vineyard block turned 36 years of age in 2016 and grows beautiful, delicious fruit. Our Chenin Blanc grapes were under contract until last year (we sold them to another winery), so when the contract was up, I took over the vineyard to make a Cave B wine from these amazing mature vines. The nose initiates with citrus notes of Key limes and Satsuma mandarin oranges. The citrus notes flow into Crenshaw melon, Granny Smith apples, and a finishing undertone of wet river stones. On the palate the wine does not disappoint bringing all of those aromas right to your taste buds. The mineral notes of wet, river stones are beautifully accentuated on the palate with the crisp, clean acidity that carries the flavors in the wine to a long beautiful finish, that persists on the palate long after you swallow the wine.
This wine is a natural for oysters on the half shell, fresh Dungeness crab, or a beautiful piece of fresh pan seared halibut. If you want to get a little more involved with a food pairing, spring pea and asparagus risotto topped with seared sea scallops and tender pea shoots would be amazing!!!
