The 2013 vintage of our Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon has really developed nicely in the bottle. With two years of bottle age at this point (September 2017 as I’m writing these tasting notes) it is drinking tremendously well immediately upon release. Aromas of rich plum jam, juniper berries, and black currants, with earthy tones of pencil shavings as well as a hint of cocoa nibs are all beautifully and intensely present on the nose. The palate is a mouthful of berry and earthy flavor that simply put, is explosively gratifying. The earthy notes lead the way and finish the show with the dark fruit flavors happily jumping all around the mid-palate. The tannin/acid balance is perfect giving the wine nice structure without being too astringent.
This wine is ready for a hearty braised beef, like a Beef Bourguignon, or traditional Osso Bucco accompanied with creamy Potatoes dauphinoise.
