Bing cherries, ripe blackberries, sweet tobacco leaves, a hint of anise and white pepper all accented with a bit of saddle leather, these aromas found in our 2012 version of our Old Vines Merlot (made w/ 27 years old vines in this vintage) are simply delicious.
The palate does not disappoint. The flavors are every bit as delicious as the aromas promised. The wine is lush, balanced and elegant with a beautifully long finish. Along with the flavors mentioned on the nose there is just the slightest essence of fresh mint on the palate adding to the wonderful complexity of this wine. Pairing this wine with the right food will be easy, think big hearty flavors and it will be hard to miss.
I’m going to go straight classic with this pairing as I think it will go tremendously well with a rich Beef Bourguignon drenched in a lovely demi-glace and caramelized pearl onions over potatoes Dauphinoise and roasted root veggies.
