The first and last time we had the opportunity to bottle a varietal of Petit Verdot was in 2009 as it is such a crucial blending component to our Bordeaux style reds, that we normally do not have enough wine to bottle it as a stand-alone. That vintage of Petit Verdot was truly loved and has been missed since then, fortunately this 2014 vintage is equally as wonderful. Aromas of black cherries lead the nose into leather-laced impressions of marionberries, dried cranberries and just the slightest hint of fresh Fines Herbes. On the palate black tea adds to the melee of flavors along with the black cherries and marionberry encountered on the nose.
Grilled lamb chops marinated with sweet onion and rosemary served over rustic mashed potatoes and drizzled with a hearty pan gravy would pair tremendously well with this wine.
